HOW TO ENTER

We are thrilled to announce that our new partnership with the Department for International Trade, takes Young
Chef Young Waiter 2021 to a global audience this year, making it more exciting than ever for our competitors.

Entry is free for young chefs and young waiters who are 26 years old or under on:

Young Chef Young Waiter UK (YCYW UK): 16 November 2021

Young Chef Young Waiter China & South East Asia (YCYW C&SEA): 16 November 2021

Competition:

The 20 UK semi-finalists selected by our expert judges will compete at the Competition Finals in Dubai:

  • Monday 15 November: Semi Final: 10 Chefs and 10 Waiter
  • Tuesday 16 November: Final: 5 Chefs and 5 Waiters
  • Winners will be announced on the stunning UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai in the UAE on the evening of Tuesday 16 November 2021

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ENTRANTS:

It is essential that at the point of entering YCYW online, you ensure that you will be available to take part in the Final Competition in Dubai: including outbound travel to the UAE on Saturday 13 November and inbound travel to the UK on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

Our online entry is a simple 2-step process.

Before you start, we recommend you read the instructions below. It may look like lots of info but we guarantee it will be hugely helpful with your entry.

First you register: name, email, create a password and accept our Terms & Conditions (which can be viewed here)

You’ll receive an email which contains an account confirmation link. You can use this to link to edit and update your profile – this is handy if you don’t wish to complete your entry in one go.

Please note:

If you entered Young Chef Young Waiter 2020 (Entrants and Finalists from last year), you do not need to register again – you can just log in with the email and password you used last time.

Next you ‘Start new entry’ to fill in your submission: you can continue completing this immediately after you’ve registered; you don’t need to wait for the email confirmation.

All of the fields except the social media and last question are required fields. They need to be filled in before the Judges can review your entry (but you don’t need to complete everything at once)

File upload: We need to see that you have the Right to Work* in the UK. Please upload clear, high resolution files of your documentation to confirm this. You can upload multiple files (jpg, jpeg, png, pdf), up to 5 MB each.

Accepted Documents

  • If you were born in the UK your birth certificate or passport are sufficient
  • If you were born outside the UK, please upload your passport plus any additional documents like your visa, permanent residence card or resident permit
  • If you need help understanding the required documentation, please contact us

Video link: Our judges would like to get to know you so please make a short video of no more than 3 mins capturing your answers to the questions:

  • Why did you choose the Hospitality Profession and who or what inspired you?
  • What are the two biggest challenges you currently face in your role and what keeps you going?
  • What’s your favourite dish on your establishment’s menu and why?
  • Please share an interesting fact about yourself!

  • What is good hospitality in your opinion and how do you implement it?
  • What is the best lesson you’ve learnt in your career so far and why is it the most valuable?
  • What was your first memorable dining experience and what made it special?

Once you’ve happy with everything you’ve written and you’ve provided your documents, video and photo, you’re ready to submit your entry.

*Please note: your entry becomes valid when it has been approved by the Nth Degree, the organisers of YCYW UK.. We will only notify your entry if there are any issues. If there aren’t any issues, your entry will be approved without further confirmation notification.
