Waiter serving wine

How to enter

Entry is free for young chefs and young waiters who are 26 years old or under on 29 October 2019.

You can take part if you’re currently employed in the role of Chef or Waiter and have been employed for 3 years or more in the hospitality profession.
Our online entry is a simple 2-step process.

Before you start, we recommend you read the instructions below. It may look like lots of info but we guarantee it will be hugely helpful with your entry.

Enter now

First you register: name, email and accept our Terms & Conditions (which can be viewed here).

You’ll receive a confirmation email which contains a link and PIN number for your registration. You can use this to login to edit and update your profile – this is handy if you don’t wish to complete your entry in one go.

Next you fill in your entry submission: you can continue completing this immediately after you’ve registered; you don’t need to wait for the email confirmation.

All of the fields except the last one are required fields. They need to be filled in before the Judges can review your entry (but you don’t need to complete everything at once)

File upload: We need to see that you have the Right to Work in the UK. Please upload clear, high resolution photo/s of your documentation to confirm this. You can upload multiple files, up to 20 MB each.

  • If you were born in the UK, your birth certificate or passport are sufficient
  • If you were born outside the UK, please upload your passport plus any additional documents like your visa, permanent residence card or resident permit
  • If you need help understanding the required documentation, please contact us

Video link: Our judges would like to get to know you so please make a short video of no more than 3 mins capturing your answers to the questions:

  • Why did you choose the Hospitality Profession and who or what inspired you?
  • What are the two biggest challenges you currently face in your role and what keeps you going?
  • What’s your favourite dish on your establishment’s menu and why?
  • Please share an interesting fact about yourself!

Please upload your video to YouTube so you can provide us with the link. You can make sure it’s set to Private if you don’t want to share it with anyone else.

If you’ve never uploaded video before, it couldn’t be easier and takes no time at all:

Please note: video must be provided as a link so that our judges can view it in your entry. We cannot accept video files.

Questions: Tell us more about yourself in your written answers to these questions in approximately 200 words or less.

  • What is good hospitality in your opinion and how do you implement it?
  • What is the best lesson you’ve learnt so far and why is it the most valuable?
  • What was your first memorable dining experience and what made it special?

Once you’ve happy with everything you’ve written and you’ve provided your documents and video, you’re ready to submit your entry.
We wish you the best of luck!

Please note: your entry becomes valid when your Right to Work in the UK has been confirmed by the Nth Degree, the organisers of YCYW. We will only notify you if there are any issues. If there aren’t any issues, your entry will be approved without further confirmation notification.
