Canadian hospitality icon partners with UK’s Nth Degree Global, UKHospitality and Restaurant Association on global hospitality industry initiative.
Toronto, ON. Canada’s leading hospitality icon, Nick Di Donato, CEO of the Liberty Entertainment Group, is pleased to announce the launch of the first-ever Canadian national Young Chef Young Waiter contest (YCYW). Open to hospitality industry professionals including chefs and servers based in Canada under the age of 26 years, the competition will focus on sustainability in hospitality and support the education and development of home grown industry talent. Established in 1979 in the UK, the Young Chef Young Waiter contest is organized by Nth Degree Global in partnership with UKHospitality and the Restaurant Association, to promote hospitality as a career of choice, a profession and as a vocation.
Online entries for the Canadian Young Chef Young Waiter contest are open August 8th with video submissions and a questionnaire for the competitors at www.youngchefyoungwaiter.com/canada. Entries are complimentary, and will close on September 16th, 2022, after which the judging panel will shortlist six finalists for both categories. The grand finale of six chefs and six waiters will see the finalists face culinary and service challenges, in front of a panel of experts. Made up of top figures from Canada’s hospitality sector and industry professionals with world-class skills, the expert judges are well known advocates for new talent as well as staunch supporters of food culture and will help competitors advance their careers and achieve their goals. The Canadian launch announcement moves the contest to the international stage this year, with the live, two-day Canadian Finals taking place in Toronto in October. Winners move on to the World Finals, scheduled for November 15-17th, in Monaco.
“The goal of Young Chef Young Waiter is to uncover the very best fresh talent in our industry and help equip them with relevant skills, current knowledge and the network needed to succeed in the international world of hospitality,” said Nick Di Donato, president and CEO, Liberty Group. “We’re honoured to partner with our other respected international professionals to finally bring this initiative here, which underscores Liberty Group’s ongoing commitment to our superlative homegrown talent. It gives me great pleasure to be title sponsor of this event in Canada,” he added.
Devised by respected professionals, the YCYW competition has a fresh modern approach that focuses on tasks and criteria that are challenging, educational and fun while showcasing all aspects of hospitality. Inspiring, empowering and inclusive, it celebrates the capabilities and diversity of the hospitality industry.
