The Young Chef Young Waiter Monaco competition 2023

The Inaugural Young Chef Young Waiter Monaco competition took place on 5th October at the Lycée Rainier III, where eight finalists battled it out to win Young Chef, Young Waiter and Young Mixologist of the year awards.

Open to all those of 28 years and younger, working in the hospitality sector in the Principality of Monaco, the finalists were selected from the online applica7on process.
The winners will now go on to compete with the winners from eight other countries, at the World Young Chef Young Waiter competition, that will be hosted by the Lycée Rainier III, on 23rd-24th November 2023.

The winning Chef Jordan Callen of Trinity Monaco and winning waiter Daryl Danican will compete as the Young Chef Young Waiter Monaco team at the World final, with Luigi Giannini, COYA Monaco, competing in the World NEFT Vodka Mixologist competition, at the event.

A stellar line up of judges on the day, including many of Monaco’s culinary and hospitality heroes, spent some hours to arrive at the final winners.
The Chef judging panel led by Christian Garcia, president of the Club des Chefs de Chefs, included Laurent Piolti, sous chef at the Hermitage; Jean-Laurent Basile, chef at Thermes marin l’Hirondelle; Luc Gamel, sous chef at the Hermitage; and Joël Garault, former chef of Vistamar, now Le Pavillon.

The hospitality judges included El Kadri Salah, Directeur du Restaurant Em Sherif, Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Anne-Sophie Kordzinski, responsible restaurant au Louis XV-Alain Ducasse Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo,

Mixology Judges fort the NEFT Vodka Mixologist Competition included: Paglia Guillaume Head Barman Trinity Monte-Carlo and Philip Culazzo, owner at Distillerie de Monaco.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II, guest of honour for the winners announcement, on the evening of 5th October, at Lycée Rainier III, congratulated each winner, as H.E. Ms. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier announced the Winning Chef, Waiter and Mixologist.
The Sovereign Prince wished the YCYW Monaco winners great success at the international final.

“The winners of YCYW Monaco now go on to compete at the World YCYW competition, hosted by the Lycée Rainier III, on 23rd-24th November, where winners from eight other countries will meet head to head, culminating in the announcement of the World winners at the YCYW Awards Dinner, on 24th November, at the Salon Empire, Hôtel de Paris.”

The Young Chef Young Waiter competition was established in 1979 and embarked on its international journey in 2019, with new countries being added yearly.
Competitors get to represent their country, meet new fellow chefs, servers and mixologists from around the world and receive constructive feedback from leading industry professionals.
