Young Chef Young Waiter Wales has crowned Sam Everton Chef Winner of YCYW Wales 2023 and Carys Webster Waiter Winner of YCYW Wales 2023.
16th October 2023: In a fierce culinary showdown featuring the most skilled and talented chefs and waiters from Wales, the live finals of Young Chef Young Waiter Wales took place. Four young chefs and Four Young waiters across Wales took part in the culinary competition at the iconic Swansea.com Stadium for a one-day final on Monday 11th September.
Sam Everton working at Coleg Ceredigion and Carys Webster working at Grove of Narberth have been named finalists of the prestigious culinary competition, YCYW Wales 2023. Their outstanding abilities and exceptional skills have set them apart, earning them a place in the World Young Chef Young Waiter finals.
Sam and Carys are set to represent Wales on the global scale, at world finals in November, at the Lycée Rainier III, formally the Lycèe Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco, showcasing their abilities to world-class chefs, hospitality experts, and mixologists. The winning chef and waiter duo of this international competition will receive a reward of $10,000 and be crowned World Young Chef Young Waiter 2023 winners.

The esteemed panel of judges for YCYW Wales 2023 were Jayne Griffith-parry, programme manager for BA hons international gastronomy management & MBA international hotel management – university of Wales Trinity Saint David, Hywel Griffith head chef and director – Beach House Oxwich, Huw Morgan Catering and hospitality lecturer – Coleg Ceredigion and Mourad Ben Tefka Director of restaurants – Seren collection.
Established in 1979, the Young Chef Young Waiter competition has solidified its presence as a fundamental event in the UK hospitality industry calendar. This esteemed competition showcases groups of exceptionally talented young chefs and waiters, each competing for the prestigious title of the Young Chef or Young Waiter winner. YCYW Wales is open to all chefs and waiters working in Wales who are under 28 years old, from any background.
